As I’ve mentioned before, we’re hiring. Speaking as a former Technical Services Librarian, I think that this is an amazing moment to explore how back room functions are evolving with front-of-the-house implications. Cataloging and the associated technical services functions drive user access to information — it’s the heart of what we do, and we need expertise and vision to lead our evolution. If you’d like to join our team, please consider applying for the job below!
SUNY Potsdam seeks a service-oriented and intellectually curious librarian to serve as Coordinator of Technical Services and Discovery. Reporting to the Director of Libraries, the Coordinator of Technical Services and Discovery will provide leadership and vision for the Libraries’ management of purchased, licensed, and subscribed content in all formats. The Coordinator will be responsible for access, discovery, and maintenance of online and subscription resources via URL resolvers, discovery layers, the library catalog, and other evolving tools. The Coordinator will supervise 4 FT Library Clerks in Technical Services, and knowing the importance of Technical Services work to the user experience, will stay connected to library users through a weekly Research Help Desk shift and/or research consultation appointments. The Coordinator will also participate in shaping library collections as a member of the Collection Development team.
